The excessive snow this past week didn’t stop the crew of the USS Little Rock from putting smiles on the faces of children at the new Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Basil was proud to be with 7 crew members of the U.S.S Little Rock, yesterday, as they personally hand-delivered presents to the children of the hospital.

“We’re here to give back to a community that supports us so much, supports the navy and the military in general,” said DC2 Victor Sanchez, a sailor on the Little Rock. “To show some face and give some uplifting moments to some of the people here.”

Partnered by the Basil Family Dealerships and the U.S.S. Little Rock Commissioning Committee this event was to ensure a perfect holiday season for the children that are currently at Oishei Children’s Hospital.

Oishei Children’s Hospital opened its doors this year and is a 12-floor, 185-bed, free standing modern facility. The hospital is the only center with the pediatric specialists who can care for children from ages zero to 21 and their families. It is also the only access point for pediatric critical care, Level 3 neonatal intensive care, and Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Centers in Western New York. Without this hospital, these young patients would have to travel outside the area for care.

“This is the only off-ship activity I sign up for” said LSC Escobar (father of three), “It means so much to me to be there for these children.”

This event allowed the patients and their families to be brought together to celebrate the joys of living by drawing the strength of one another.

Basil is more than proud to have been partnered with the U.S.S. Little Rock Commissioning Committee in ensuring that these children got the holiday of a lifetime.
