How to Get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls by Car

There’s no way around it: The fastest way to get to Niagara Falls from Buffalo is to take a car! If you don’t mind paying a toll, the route over Grand Island will get you there in 30 minutes or less:

  • Drive over to Church Street and from there, hop on to I-190 N
  • I-190 N will take you all the way across Grand Island. Once you’re on the other side, take exit 22 to enter US-62 N.
  • Exit US-62 onto Pine Avenue, and you’re in Niagara Falls! From there, it’s just a hop, a skip, and a jump to the waterfalls on the other side of town.

Your Return Trip: Drive south through the town of Niagara Falls until you hit Buffalo Avenue. Follow the avenue east, until you hit I-190 S. If you’re willing to pay a toll, you can follow I-190 S all the way back to Buffalo, NY.

How to Get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls by Bus

If you’re near the Buffalo city center, you can actually take the number 40 bus directly to Niagara Falls! This is probably the easiest way to get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls, and since the bus fare only costs around $2.00 per trip, it just might be the cheapest, too! Here’s what you should know:

  • You’ll hop onto Buffalo’s 40 Bus at the Buffalo Metropolitan Transportation Center. You’ll diverge from I-190 N as you travel across Grand Island, but otherwise, the route is virtually identical to the route you would take by car, described above. The main difference is that this trip should take you around an hour.
  • In order to get home, you’ll just need to locate the Portage Road Transportation Center in Niagara Falls, and then find the next 40 bus that’s headed for Buffalo.

Before you make the trip from Buffalo to Niagara Falls by bus, make sure to check out the complete #40 Bus Schedule for arrival and departure times.

Shortcut: If you’re trying to get from Buffalo Niagara International Airport to Niagara Falls, the easiest route involves hailing a shuttle from the Buffalo Airport Taxi Service. At $48 per person round trip, this option isn’t cheap. However, if you’re willing to pay for simplicity and convenience, there’s no better way to go.

How to Get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls by Bike

The team at Basil Family Dealerships might specialize in automobiles, but we still love telling our friends and neighbors about the easy ways to get from Buffalo to Niagara Falls by bicycle!

Our favorite route involves taking the Riverwalk from Buffalo and across Grand Island. Here’s what you should know before taking off:

  • The Riverwalk Trail starts at Lakefront Boulevard and Erie Street in Buffalo New York. Get on the trail, start heading north, and continue until you hit the point where I-190 crosses the Niagara River.
  • You’ll find yourself beneath the bridge you need to take across the river. Double back to the east, then enter onto the smallest and southernmost of the two bridges. A small biking/walking path will enable you to get across the water safely.
  • After you’re over the water, you’ll see a way to cross beneath the main I-190 bridge via a small path that will run along the side of Beaver Island Pkwy / South Pkwy.
  • You’ll eventually cross over to the other side of the Pkwy, and from there, you’ll follow along Grand Island Boulevard.
  • Another trail, near the Milestone Textile center, will take you to the next crossing. Once again, you’ll meet up with I-190 and pass over the river.
  • You’ll do a small loop that will take you close to Buffalo Avenue, and then you’ll dip back down near the river. There, you’ll encounter a trail that will take you along the water, all the way to the Niagara Falls State Park!

Just reverse these steps to find your way home! The whole trip will take between two and two and a half hours, depending on how quick you are. Remember to bring water, and note that elevation will change along the route!
